US electric automotive manufacturer plans major charging network
Electric automotive startup Rivian has presented eye-catching plans for its own expansive charging network across North American dubbed the Rivian Adventure Network which which is projected to be available exclusively to owners of Rivian’s electric vehicles.
The network will include more than 3,500 DC chargers at over 600 locations in the United States and Canada by late 2023 and according to Rivian will offer in excess of 200 kW of charging power with a view to being upgraded to more than 300 kW in due course.
Inspired by Tesla’s Superchargers and Destination Chargers and powered by 100 percent renewable energy the Rivian fast chargers are anticipated to be located on major routes as well as have cafes or suitable shops and service stations.
The Adventure Network will be exclusively available for Rivian owners, and the Michigan-based company is also planning a separate AC charging network similar in framework to Tesla’s Destination Charging infrastructure. The proposed Rivian Waypoints are to offer an AC charging capacity of 11.5 kW with over 10,000 such AC chargers by the end of 2023, primarily across 42 state parks in Colorado.
Rivian have also announced plans closer to the home with a charging solution for private properties possessing 11.5 kW of charging power and each vehicle will come with a mobile charger compatible with both 240-volt and 120-volt outlets.
