Mercedes-EQ's Stoffel Vandoorne claimed his first race win of the season ahead of  Mahindra Racing’s Alexander Sims and Pascal Wehrlein. Vandoorne bounced back with aplomb from a disappointing race one on the streets of Rome to fight his way from fourth on the grid, clocking up the TAG Heuer Fastest Lap and placing himself well in contention for the championship.

Vandoorne controlled the pace brilliantly to lead the field into a one lap dash following a late race safety car period and behind Vandoorne, Sims put on an overtaking masterclass on the greasy track to take advantage of several safety car periods and yellow flags and beat TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team driver Wehrlein. The German driver claimed the final podium position after ROKiT Venturi Racing Norman Nato, who crossed the line third on the road, was disqualified for energy overuse.

The fourth round of the 2021 FIA Formula E championship was an action-packed affair, starting behind the MINI Electric Pacesetter, when the action got underway, pole position winner and race favourite Nick Cassidy spun out of the lead soon after the race was underway.

The winners from the opening two races in Saudi Arabia, Sam Bird and Nyck de Vries were wiped out after making contact with one-another as they fought for points on the cusp of the top 10, whilst further up the field Edoardo Mortara claimed fourth, followed by (BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Maximilian Günther.

Formula E now heads to Spain for the inaugural Valencia E-Prix on April 24 & 25.
